Two representatives from Kentuckys insurance exchange will present an information session at Union College later this month about the federal Affordable Care Act.
Carrie Banahan, executive director of the Kentucky Health Benefit Exchangebetter known as Kynectwill co-present with Deputy Executive Director Bill Nold, offering general information about new health care options in the state. Both will be available to field questions after the presentation.
The event is at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23 in Conway Boatman Chapel. Admission is free.
Kynect, Kentuckys online health exchange, allows residents to shop for health insurance, a benefit that many Kentuckians do not have.
It is estimated that over 620,000 in the state are currently without health coverage, said Sarah Hendrix, Ph.D., associate professor of social work at Union College. The people who are most likely to benefit from the Affordable Care Act are currently the ones least likely to have information about it. That is why Union College is coordinating this event.
Following the presentation, guests are encouraged to remain on campus for a lunch-time question and answer session in Conference Rooms A, B and C in the Patridge Campus Center. The cafeteria, located on the ground level of the campus center, is open to the public. Guests are welcome to take their meals into the conference rooms until the session concludes at 12:30 p.m.
On Thursday, Oct. 24, trained personnel from Union College, supervised by Kynect partner Grace Community Health Center, will be available to assistant the public with enrollment issues. Enrollment assistance will be from 1-7 p.m. in the Norton Hall computer lab at Union College. This event is sponsored by Grace Community Health Center and Union College.
